If the pet is not a good fit for my home, can I bring it back for a refund?

Yes, we offer a 14-day return period. During those 14 days, if the animal is not a good fit and you must return it, a refund or the animal can be exchanged for a different one that would better fit the adopter.

Am I required to spay or neuter the pet I choose?

Yes, all animals adopted from OARC must be spayed or neutered before the adoption is finalized. The OARC incurs the fees.

Will my pet be microchipped?

Yes, all animals adopted or fostered from OARC are microchipped.

Do I need a pet carrier for my cat upon adoption?

No, you do not need to previously purchase a cat carrier although we encourage you to purchase one for future vet visits. If you do not have one before, we have temporary cardboard carriers that the animal can go home in.

What do I do if the dog I adopt is heartworm positive?

All heartworm positive dogs in our care receive 30 days of doxycycline and SimparicaTrio for a slow-kill method. After adoption, we give the adopter the remainder of the doxy if it is not completed, and an additional month of SimparicaTrio to give the adopter time to get established with a vet. Our contracted vet clinic, Magnolia Small Animal Hospital, offers discount pricing for the fast-kill method for dogs adopted from the OARC.

Are there any restrictions on adopting pitbulls or pit mixed breeds?

No, we do not discriminate against breeds.

Can I adopt a cat or kitten for the purpose of a barn or mousing?

We offer special pricing for barn cats, but it depends on our inventory at the time. The only cats that we adopt out specifically for barn or mousing are semi-feral cats.

Can I take my pet home the same day that I match with it?

Yes, but until the animal is up to date on shots and spayed or neutered, the adoption cannot be finalized.

I have adopted a pet, now what?

We encourage our adopters to establish vet care with a local veterinarian within the first 30 days of pet ownership.
